Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 large apple, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead into a smooth dough for about 8 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Meanwhile, sauté diced apple in butter over medium heat until soft, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon, cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Once dough has risen, punch it down and divide into 6 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a flat circle, spread a tablespoon of cream cheese and 2 tablespoons of the apple mixture in the center.
  8. Carefully fold the dough over the filling and shape into a bagel with a hole in the center.
  9. Place formed bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rest for 20 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush bagels with beaten egg.
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Allow to cool slightly before serving; optionally dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Notes

For a richer taste, serve warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
