A comforting and cheesy broccoli cheddar orzo bake that’s perfect for a wholesome weeknight dinner, combining tender orzo pasta with fresh broccoli and sharp cheddar cheese.

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Cook orzo pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. Steam broccoli florets until tender-crisp, about 4-5 minutes. Set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. Add garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  7. Combine cooked orzo, steamed broccoli, and cheese sauce. Mix gently to coat evenly.
  8. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top and drizzle with olive oil.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  10. Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra crunch, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top before baking or add cooked diced chicken for a protein boost.
