Crispy Chicken Waffle

Enjoy a delicious blend of crispy fried chicken paired perfectly with a golden waffle, creating a comforting and satisfying dish that’s perfect for brunch or dinner.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine milk, eggs, and melted butter. Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just combined.
  3. Preheat waffle iron and lightly grease it.
  4. Pour batter onto waffle iron and cook until golden and crisp. Set waffles aside.
  5. Place chicken thighs in a bowl and pour buttermilk over them. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. In a shallow dish, mix 1 cup flour, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Remove chicken from buttermilk, dredge thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture.
  9. Fry chicken pieces in hot oil until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  10. Serve each crispy chicken thigh on top of a warm waffle with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Notes

For extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dredging flour, or serve with hot sauce on the side.
